Disney's Frozen movie and soundtrack burst forth upon the scene like the Polar Vortex - with plenty of force and staying power. In fact, it had such presence and acclaim that it secured two Oscars at the 2014 Academy Awards, for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.

For this playlist I thought a lot about the characters and themes in the film. Sure, the soundtrack has some memorable songs: "Let It Go," "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?," and "In Summer" are my personal favorites. But there are some great songs from our popular music archives that enhance the mood and themes of Frozen as well. I could picture Kristoff and Sven jammin' to "Snow Day" by Bleu; the scary ice monster who chased down Anna and friends would probably appreciate the smooth notes of Dean Martin's "A Marshmallow World"; and after their moving reunion and eventual return to normalcy at the end of the movie, I could picture Anna and Elsa playfully singing "Sisters" (of White Christmas fame - recorded by real-life sisters Rosemary and Betty Clooney). Lastly, I will admit, the very first song to pop in my head to accompany this story is the cheesy throwback-to-1990 by Vanilla Ice: "Ice Ice Baby." Oh yes, I did.
